Introduction
I don't think those fallen sailors pose a difficulty to our research. They're living history! These people saw our world as it was a thousand years ago! Can you imagine that? Just the thought of it makes me dizzy!
But how to talk to them, that is the main question... Judging by what we know, they became spirits sometimes around the time of the Great Cataclysm. But that doesn't necessarily mean they died as a result of it. To make that assumption would be very narrow-minded.
You see, here are two things that can cause a soul to linger in this world. When they die before their time, or when a necromancer rips the soul out of their body with dark magic. Due to their level of agitation, I think that perhaps the latter is what happened to those sailors! And I think I know how I can prove this theory.
I have an old amulet that I found in some past expedition. It was used by an ancient Zem necromancer to perform such rituals. Try using its power on a few spirits - if any of them respond to the magic and start to obey you, then my theory must be correct.
Process
Of course it's interesting to study old ships and bits of pottery, but we must study the spirits first!
Completion
Not a single spirit obeyed you? I must have made a mistake then. They can't have been killed by a necromancer.
