Their wealth and influence allowed them to overtake other Houses, such as Moran or Glaen, when the last king Ollathar died after being attacked by dragons. The Velunds did a lot to protect Irene from the attacks of fire-breathing giants; it was their barrier that limited the dragons' ability to hunt elves in the northwestern forests.
