Retrospection

Read the research log of the Object and bring it to Yaver Gnostis in the mine.

...The log remained almost intact. Its pages, covered with loose handwriting, contain valuable information regarding the purpose of the Mine, and also some important information on the Object.
Here and there on the margins of the log there is a curious verbatim of the scientists' conversations. Among them, there is a dialogue between Vasily Dankin, the former head of the complex, and Negus Jeeg, the crazy Tep's minion who started all the trouble.
You should bring this to Yaver Gnostis. Herbert calls him "the keeper of secrets" of the Surveyors, so he can be entrusted with such an important information.

A log? Very curious. I was afraid I was going to have to search this place myself, but here is all the information I need.
This looks very promising. So the mine is just a huge pipe way for the safe opening of the portal! An interesting solution, though not the most elegant one. And now it is supposedly worthless since the Object was displaced.
